You don’t even have to unlock your Apple device to see one of the updates in iOS 12. Notifications are now grouped by app with a 3D look if there are multiple notifications.

In the image above, you can see that Gmail has a “stack” of notifications, followed by a stack of notifications from the Google app. Tapping either stack will spread the notifications out vertically like the old style. You can re-collapse them with a “Show less” button.

The new style will save screen space and give you the ability to see notifications by app before drilling down to a set of notifications. Once the notifications are spread out, you can swipe a notification to the right to open or left for more options including the option to clear that notification. You can also swipe a stack to the left to clear the entire stack at once.

The new style works the same once the device is unlocked using the swipe-down gesture to view notifications. The changes should make it easier to deal with long lists of notifications by letting you see them by app, and easier to manage with the ease of clearing them by stack.
